Freediving in Bhogwe: Discovering the Arabian Sea with Divers of Vingoria
Most people think of the Andaman Islands or Pondicherry when they think of freediving in India. But on India's west coast, tucked into a quiet fishing village on the Maharashtra-Goa border, a small dive centre has been quietly building something special.
Divers of Vingoria is based in Bhogwe, a coastal village in Vengurla Taluka, Maharashtra — and it's one of the most compelling freediving destinations in the country for divers based in Mumbai, Pune, or Bangalore.
Where is Bhogwe?
Bhogwe sits on the Konkan coast, roughly at the point where Maharashtra meets the sea in its southernmost stretch. It's a quiet seaside village far removed from the crowds of more commercial diving destinations — and that's precisely the point.
Getting there:
- From Mumbai: ~7 hours by road via the coastal highway
- From Pune: ~6 hours by road
- From Bangalore: ~8 hours by road
For divers based in western India, Bhogwe is the closest serious freediving destination — no flights, no ferries.
The Arabian Sea: A Different Underwater World
Most Indian freediving happens in the Bay of Bengal (Andaman, Pondicherry) or the Indian Ocean (Lakshadweep). The Arabian Sea off the Konkan coast offers a genuinely different experience.
The waters around Bhogwe are known for:
- Rich marine biodiversity — the Konkan coast hosts diverse reef fish, rays, and octopus
- Warm conditions year-round, with water temperatures ranging from 26–30°C
- Accessible depths ideal for beginner and intermediate freedivers
- Minimal crowds — the isolation of Bhogwe means you're rarely competing for water space
About Divers of Vingoria
Established in 2020, Divers of Vingoria is an SSI-certified dive centre with a philosophy built around two things: safety and personalisation.
Their approach is explicitly one-on-one. They recognise that no two divers are the same — different comfort levels, different goals, different physiology — and they tailor every experience accordingly. Their instructors are certified professionals with extensive experience across varying water conditions, and their equipment meets international safety standards throughout.
In addition to freediving, they offer a full range of SSI scuba courses — making Bhogwe a viable destination for freedivers who want to bring a scuba-diving companion.
Freediving at Vingoria
For freedivers, Divers of Vingoria offers guided freediving experiences and introductory sessions suited to the Arabian Sea environment. The personalised, small-group format means you get genuine instructor attention — a significant advantage for beginners working on relaxation, equalisation, and breath management.
Their SSI certification pathway is also available for those who want a formal freediving qualification alongside their Konkan diving experience.
Why Go to Bhogwe?
If you're based in western India, Bhogwe is the most accessible serious freediving destination available. No expensive flights or long ferry rides — just a scenic drive down the Konkan coast.
If you value quiet over crowds, Bhogwe delivers. This is not a tourist hotspot. It's a working fishing village where the sea takes priority over the Instagram backdrop.
If you want personal instruction, the one-on-one ethos at Divers of Vingoria is rare. Larger dive centres in more popular destinations often run courses in groups of 6–8. Here, the attention is genuinely yours.
