1. Who We Are

The Freediving Association of India (FAI) is a non-profit organisation promoting the sport of freediving in India. This policy explains how we handle personal data collected through our website at freedivingassociation.org and related subdomains (the "Site").

2. Data We Collect

We collect the following categories of data when you use the Site:

  • Account data: Name, email address, and password hash when you create an account.
  • Profile data: City/location, bio, certifications, Instagram handle, and profile photo that you choose to provide.
  • Dive logs: Personal best records and dive log entries you submit voluntarily.
  • Community data: Posts, comments, buddy requests, poll votes, and other content you create on the Site.
  • Usage data: Pages visited, browser type, and IP address, collected automatically via server logs.

3. How We Use Your Data

  • To create and manage your account.
  • To display your public profile to other logged-in members (only if you enable public visibility).
  • To power the buddy finder, leaderboard, and community features.
  • To send transactional emails (e.g. password reset). We do not send marketing emails without your consent.
  • To improve the Site based on aggregated, anonymised usage analytics.

4. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored securely via Supabase, hosted on infrastructure in the European Union. Supabase applies industry-standard encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest. Passwords are never stored in plain text. FAI staff access to raw data is restricted to administrators for operational purposes only.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes. Data is shared only:

  • With Supabase as our data processor (governed by their Data Processing Agreement).
  • When required by Indian law or a valid legal process.
  • In aggregate, anonymised form for reporting on the growth of freediving in India.

You have the right to:

  • Access a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate data via your Profile page.
  • Request deletion of your account and associated data.
  • Withdraw consent for optional data uses at any time.

The Site uses strictly necessary session cookies to keep you logged in. We do not use tracking, advertising, or analytics cookies.

8. Children

The Site is not directed at children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy periodically. Material changes will be communicated via a notice on the Site. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
